Feelings From A.OK's Founder > balance

Dear Friends,

This morning I stood at my kitchen window, watching light fill the sky. Half a minute longer today than yesterday. We've passed the spring equinox, that brief, perfect balance when day and night share equal weight. Now we tilt toward light.

Balance has been on my mind lately. Not the performative kind—but the honest kind that emerges when we stop trying so hard. All winter I moved as many do—checking emails before my feet touched the floor, mistaking exhaustion as virtue, and apologizing for needing rest. As the world accelerates, we convince ourselves we must match its pace.

Then one evening last month while in Ojai with my daughter, I found myself standing barefoot beneath an impossibly starry sky. The silence was complete. The air cool against my skin. I realized how long it had been since I'd experienced night unfiltered by city lights and sounds.

I made a list that night. Simple rituals I could bring back to Brooklyn with me. Small ways to honor light and darkness, even in the city.

Nothing revolutionary. Nothing that requires special equipment or new purchases. Just small moments of return to what we already know.

The equinox reminds us that balance is always temporary. What I love about our A.OK community is that we understand this—being OK doesn't mean sameness. It means making room for everything: effort and rest, clarity and confusion.

This spring, I’m keeping things simple. Maybe you will too. Or maybe something else will ground you. Whatever it is, trust that it’s enough. And more importantly, you are enough, as you are.

With gratitude,
Alessandra

P.S. - The world will tell you a thousand times today to reach higher, push harder, want more. Consider this your permission to occasionally ignore it all.
